This book is a definite must for all parents of children with any kind of congenital heart defect.  It explains congenital heart defects, infections of the heart and its valves, test that may be required to help your child, questions to ask your child's doctor, how to help you and your child if surgery is required, commonly used medications, and future risk factors.

MY HEART STORY-$10.00- written by a parent after her child's surgical experience, this book is designed as a journal/ memory book for parent to keep while the child is in the hospital for surgery. The pages have very cute borders and are child appropriate with some pages being blank for pictures, others having lines for script. This also helps to explain to the child, when they are ready, what they have experienced.

SPECIAL KIDS NEED SPECIAL PARENTS $11.95

This is a children's magazine from the Kids' Discover series. It has excellent diagrams of the heart & blood flow. It also includes articles about healthy hearts and how to keep them that way

This book is a very good resource for explaining to siblings what the heart child will be experiencing. It explains all the different "heart" tests from the ekg, to the cath lab to the hospital. It also explains to a child how the heart works, in terms that they can understand. This book received wonderful reviews from both parents and professionals that we asked for their opinion prior to carrying it. WHEN MOLLY WAS IN THE HOSPITAL $12.95
This book is written to help siblings understand what happens in a family when a sibling is hospitalized. It is a young girl telling her experience about when her baby sister was hospitalized, how she felt, the frustrations, the emotions, and what happened after the baby came home. While it is not specific for heart surgery, the issue of hospitalization, itself, is very well addressed.
